Are you currently constructing a new home with stucco walls, or restructuring your home to have a more environmentally friendly exterior? If you are not interested in plain white or the natural color of the applicant, you can paint your outer walls to suit your design needs. It is simple to do on your own, just follow these steps.
Begin by masking any areas or spots that shouldn't be painted. Make sure, too, that the surface you intend to paint is clean and free of damage. Seal any cracks and gaps on your outer walls to prevent absorption of water under the existing stucco layer. In doing this, too, you ensure a lasting paint job, and prevent loose stucco from becoming removed within the preparatory measures.
To ensure that repaired patches match up with the rest from the area, applying two coats of paint in the effected area. Caulk may be used for small cracks as well before applying paint. When cracks are larger, application of elastomeric caulk is most appropriate.
When you take these preparatory actions, you create an excellent "canvas" for your chosen color. Take care, too, to check that your stucco wall is completely dried and cured before applying any paint - the stucco must possess a firm grip upon the area. If you have any questions about preparing and painting stucco walls, consult with your local contractor on the correct procedures and types of color to use.
